Israeli helicopter fires missiles on Gaza

The attack on Tuesday came in apparent retaliation for a rocket attack hours earlier on a town in southern Israel.

Witnesses said the metal workshop, where motorbikes were manufactured, was destroyed in the late night air strike and two passersby were wounded.

"The Israeli air force attacked a workshop containing weapons used by Hamas terrorists for terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians," the Israeli military said in a statement.

Israel has carried out similar attacks in the past against foundries suspected of making weapons and rockets for Palestinian resistance fighters.

Hours earlier, a rocket fired from the northern Gaza Strip
exploded on a road in the southern Israeli town of Sderot. Five people were treated for shock, the army said. The Islamic Jihad group said it launched the rocket.

Israel Radio's military affairs correspondent said the Gaza air strike was a retaliation for the attack on Sderot.
