Help Stop the Cuevas Family Deportation
"It's going to take a miracle (to stay)," said Dale Cuevas, 23, the family's adult son.
Calling All Miracle Workers and Organizers of all strips and colors - We need to stop this deportation and draw a line in the sand, so to speak - Join the organizing efforts talked about below and do whatever you can to stop the deportation of the Cuevas family.

1) we have (and will continue to have) a meeting this Sunday at 3:00pm at the New Covenant Presbyterian Church in San Leandro on Fargo Street. We will be planning the major actions for the month.
2) the first major action is that we will be sending a delegation to
Boxer's office next Wednesday June 9 to formally present her with the list of organizational endorsers. We will follow up with a major rally to support the family June 16 and then a final action (if they don't respond favorably) on June 23
3) action: organizations can send their official endorsements to me and on their own, they can send letters of support to Boxer. Individuals can also send their endorsements to me as letter of support to Boxer; if they are not already involved in an organization they can attend the Sunday meetings because this group will eventually transform into an immigrant advocacy group.

The extra comments made along with this posting are attributed to me. After watching the filipino community organizers for years now, I really think that we can stop this deportation. It will require a lot of help from everyday folks, especially the communities that are mst targeted by this bullshit, and white allies like myself will help to back everything up in whatever way we can. I am going to contact all the organizations that I work with to help on this, especially as we get closer and closer to the current deportation date, set for the end of the month.

The Cuevas family is here illegally nothing else matters. The parents are responsible for the fix their kids are in. If they had immigrated the right way, there would be no problem. Thank God there was no legislation done to keep the Cuevas' here. The laws speak for themselves.
I don't know about you Kathleen, but my family got no permit from the original inhabitants of these lands. Some of our Irish descendents at least fought on the right side when they switched sides during the US-Mexico war and formed the San Patricio Brigade, but the history of the colonialization of Alta California by Spain and Mexico is not much better than the history of manifest destiny on the part of our european ancestors in the United States.
The Cuevas family came to the Bay Area based on a similar history of colonialization in their homelands in the Philippines. Spain and the yankees of the United States have continually messed with the Philippine islands for well over 100 years. On the bright side of things - Cebu, the island that the Cuevases are going back to, has a history of anti-colonial resistance that goes back to the execution of Magellan on it's beautiful shores.
viva la resistancia!! viva los san patricios!!

The law is the law. They got what they deserved.
That is just liberal rhetoric.
You put a lot of thought into that response huh?
What about the right to sovereignty and democracy? When one law is broken it creates a whole string of responses. The highest law, which may not be in the books, is about survival and defending your family and your people. How can any government or group of people really expect to continue to allow corporations, which are legally considered people under U.S. law, continue to "freely" cross borders to exploit people and leave other people without jobs, creating a cycle of migration of people who are merely seeking to survive and secure a livelihood to put food into their mouths and their family's mouths. This cycle of exploitation and forced migration is deeply tied to the colonial and neo-colonial history of the Philippines and a large reason for the Cuevas family's journey to the Bay Area along with a lot of other filipino family's forced migration around the time of the Marcos dictatorship's demise. Unfortunately this history of corporate exploitation and U.S. govt manipulation of the govt in the Philippines continues today, and that is part of the main problem with your argument. There are higher laws in this country and in this world that dictate our survival as human beings and as parts of the global ecological system, if the current cycle of govt manipulation in the name of corporate exploitation is not broken, you can count on a lot more "illegal" immigration into this country and other "first world(aka colonizing)" countries in the north. Afterall isn't it this very cycle, in it's pre-industrial forms, that partially motivated the settlers of Europe to partially throw off the yoke of oppression in the wars that led to the development of the United States?
just some simple thoughts to try to get you thinking a little more about what you are writing in regards to the Cuevas family and so called illegal immigrants. i know that some of my family members have been part of this history in russia as german farm labor, in conquered ireland as part of the history of the great famine and subsequent attempts to throw off the yolk of english colonialism, and in france under attack from nazi germany during ww2. you might try thinking a bit more critically about the history that has led to so many immigrants making up this interesting "melting pot" that we call america. NOTE: I am against the notions of a melting pot as I think that it is better to hold onto our histories and cultures because if we don't remember them and continue to pass them on we are doomed to continue to make the same mistakes that have led us all here in the first place, and we will all continue to be used against each other for cheap labor and the profit of a very few rulers.

just wondering? cause what i am talking about is not liberal rhetoric it is the real history that exists below the surface of lies that we are all so commonly fed by corporate media and the powers that be.
<Kathleen ,you are highly opinionated and harsh.
.
<I can't envision living in your world...
<No man is an island.....Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously, Kathleen does everything else but think.

I just love it...the way Kathleen stated '"the laws speak for themselves, the Cuevas family deserves deportation". She adds, she's glad legislation denied them assistance. What a jerk!!!
The biggest issue is the legal system , and legislators being so unfair, unjust, and inconsistent. I don't see any equality, fairness, nor justice wtih legislators in terms every aspect related to their decision as to who deserves a private bill.
If you're so big on laws then let the laws be fair and just!!!!

Illegal immigration is not ok, however,it can't just be black or white either, otherwise, why bother having laws, if all of us share the same concept as Dusty.
Thanks to democracy, we have the right to express our mind. Dusty, you have your opinion , we, heart liberals have ours. What makes us different lies more with respect...we don't indulge in labelling people, because we understand that you have an opinion, we have ours!!!!
To the Cuevases, keep the faith!!!!!

I do understand about overcrowding, healthcare overburden, unemployment.& on & on.....
Sorry, Dusty, I still strongly believe it was unjust to remove the Cuevas family, for reasons you may not even bother to be aware of or you just refuse to comprehend.
God bless!!!!!!!!!!

MORE POWER TO THE SUPPORTERS!!!
THE CUEVASES DESERVE OUR SUPPORT!!!!!!!!!
THE CUEVASES DESERVE OUR SUPPORT!!!!!!!!!
I support the Cuevas family . There are millions of undocumented immigrants, majority of them I believe are evading the tax system. The Cuevases may have taken jobs away from Americans, but they did pay their dues.
The Cuevases ,to this day, have supporters praying and wishing them the best.
God Bless!

The Cuevases value and appreciate the loyalty and hard work all their supporters/friends have done and will continue to do .We all believe the Cuevases do not deserve deportation. We'll keep fighting!!!
