Zapatista Demo Against Violence In Guadalajara

Hi everyone,

We have decided to answer the call for demonstrations at Mexican consulates
around the world to protest the police violence against demonstrators in
Guadalajara, state of Jalisco, Mexico. We realize this is a last-minute
announcement, but will appreciate your support. Even if there are only a
few of us, the message will get across.

We will be at the consulate, which is located at 8th and J streets, at
12:30 pm tomorrow. The demo will be over by 1:30 pm.

We will be making flyers that explain the situation, and why we are
demonstrating. We also plan to write a letter to the Mexican government,
and deliver it to the consul as well as to the media, denouncing the
inhuman treatment being given to the people detained by the Guadalajara
police. Comparisons are being made to the treatment of Iraqi prisoners by
the US; accounts on the e-mail tell of women being forced to strip naked
and being threatened with rape, and of officers beating the testicles of
male prisoners. We'll try to send out (separately) some of the messages
about the events in Guadalajara. This all happened just last weekend.

If you can make and bring a sign or poster, the themes should be:
protecting the human rights of all, freedom for the demonstrators; no
torture of political prisoners, etc.
