The SHORTWAVE REPORT 6/4/04 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, China, Russia, Germany, Spain, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (June 1) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (29:00)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, China Radio International, the Voice of Russia, Radio Deutsche Welle, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands-Brazil is sending UN peacekeepers to maintain peace in Haiti, the largest foreign mission Brazil has ever undertaken. In a press review, there are strongly opposing views of the new leadership in Iraq.
From China- China is urging the US to stop selling advanced weapons to Taiwan, and defends its right to upcoming war games in Eastern China. Work begins this summer on an oil pipeline from Kazakhstan to the mainland.
From Russia- Russia is negotiating a natural gas pipeline from the Black Sea to Israel. Iran has again denied nuclear weapons plans. Russia says the US war on Iraq shatters the international alliance against terrorism. The Council of Europe's Human Rights commissioner says the so-called war on terrorism is being used to curb freedom and ignore human rights abuses. A commentary on Rumsfeld's statement that the war on terrorism is closer to the beginning than the end.
From Germany- Spain has chosen to stay out of a new anti-terrorism accord put together by 5 other EU nations.
From Spain- The new president sworn in in El Salvador says he will bring more foreign investment to the nation. Revolutionary struggles continue in Bolivia and Colombia. Fighting has expanded in Somalia. A significant series of meetings were held between the leaders of Spain and Syria.
From Cuba- In Iraq, Akmed Chalabi has gone from America's protege to bad boy. The Bush administration is quietly moving legislation to reestablish the draft in the US.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better-  http://www.freakradio.org  Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) now streams this program on Friday at 9:30am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!

--I have noticed that as soon as you have soldiers the story is called history. Before their arrival it is called myth, folktale, legend, fairy tale, oral poetry, ethnography. After the soldiers arrive, it is called history.
