Hook-ups

by savefreedom @yahoogroups.com (sfBarea [at] yahoogroups.com)
"Friends with benefits," etc. ( + SF events )
New York Times Magazine (May 30) examines casual sex (non-dating "hook-ups", et cetera) among high school students,
who copy this trend from college students; in an article by Benoit Denizet-Lewis entitled
"Friends, Friends With Benefits and the Benefits of the Local Mall".

Mr. Denizet-Lewis is contributing writer for NYT magazine,
fellow at Alicia Patterson Foundation.
He wrote for NYTM about "down-low" culture (the black closet).
.......

You may find his hook-up article informative, if you go to

n=2f46da812800db9f ]

........
For now, here are three notes:

(A) ''Down in Key West, high-school girls are crazy,'' says Adam, a soccer player, 16.
''Girls were making out with each other on the beach.
Lesbians are cool!''
[When he says "lesbians", in this context, does he mean bi-lesbians?
Let's hear from queers in Florida. ]

(B) Casual sex, among teens living at home, has been made much easier by the Internet.
Queer teens used online meeting sites years before straight teens caught up.

(C) Most adult experts predictably condemn these trends.
For a dissenting view, try Jeanette May, co-founder of
Coalition for Positive Sexuality, in DC.
