[ZapNews] Guadalajara Police Brutality - Take Action!
Authorities have claimed that they will release most prisoners on two conditions: out-of-town protesters must leave immediately, and all damaged property must be paid for.
The ¡Enough Is Enough! Project is calling for solidarity actions with our comrades in Guadalajara, Mexico,
where violent repression and torture is occurring during protests of the meeting of Latin America and the Caribbean and the European Union May 26-29th. Activists are protesting the meetings of an exclusive group of
heads of state who do not represent needs of their communities, who are signing agreements that will increase poverty and exploit resources and labor.
Police harassment and brutality has been rampant during the protests. On May 27, after a camp where out-of-town protesters were staying, was surrounded by police and no one was allowed to enter or exit for five hours. The following day, Friday, May 28th, serious confrontation broke
out during the main march of the conference. The police unnecessarily attacked protesters with tear gas, pepper spray and physical aggression. After standing their ground for over an hour, protesters were forced to flee the area. The majority of arrests were made after the confrontation
had ended, as protesters attempted to reach a safe place.
Over 100 activists and bystanders have disappeared. Protesters are being held in 5 different jails and 2 different hospitals and the authorities have refused to release their names . Witnesses in the jails have reported torture inside the jail. Women have been forced to strip naked, and men have been brutally beaten while handcuffed on the ground. Nine of the people being held are foreigners, one of them severely injured. Her physical condition is unknown and no visitors, including lawyers, have been allowed to visit any detainees.
Authorities have claimed that they will release most prisoners on two conditions: out-of-town protesters must leave immediately, and all damaged property must be paid for. The current situation at 9:00 pm, Saturday night: ten people have been let out, a list of names has finally been released, 43 of which will remain in jail on charges, and eight foreigners
are about to be deported.
OUR DEMANDS:
1) Unconditional freedom for all the political detainees
2) Drop all charges
3) No more harassment, torture, beatings or arrests
4) Proper medical treatment for injured detainees
5) Safe passage home for all activists
WE CALL FOR ACTIONS OF SOLIDARITY
1) phone calls to the Mexican embassy and consulates
2) donations for legal fees

An email from a friend in Mexico about the Guadalajara demos.
Con amor, solidaridad y libertad, I*

Translation to the best of my abilities
Hello loved ones and friends:
I write you from Guadalajara, Jalisco, after two days that have felt like 2 years, after have been brutally repressed by the police of the state, the motive was the... in the final demonstration of the ALCUE. Also I had sent them a mail explaining the situation and in these moments it is very critical, we have more than 70 people in jail, They aren't allowed to see lawyers, since the arrest the haven't eaten nor enough water, they are tortring some of the demonstrators in jail, and already they have signed confessions of acts they didn't commit. My brain is very affected and not functioning very well.
I can't explain with words the situation nor feel my heart in this moment.
One of my best friends is in prison, Mauser, simply imagining what is happening inside I get goosebumps. The lawyers say that all the is very scared, they are totally terrorized by the torture and ... they have suffered by the police.
Since the moment they have said that the charges that have been imputed are (Motin, Dano en propiedad ajena, Lesiones) and vandalism. The charges are achieved bail but it surely it will be very high (translator's note, bail has been set, and the lowest bail is $5000, on up to $25,000)
We are extremely worried about our siblings, friends and comrades, we want them released, we want them free and we want it now. Our powerlessness grows more and more and the uncertaintly kills us.
Basically, i am asking for your help. the help of your organizations and the raising of funds that can be done, already "ya sea por medio de tocadas a beneficio, boteo, fiestas, loq ue sea."
We need A LOT of money for the bail and the transportation of these political prisoners.
I know that your help and solidarity is the only way to get them out of jail. These donations can be made via paypal the information and link to do it is in the following page:
http://guadalajara.mediosindependientes.org
For the moment that is all, but I will send more information and communiques that I get so that the media and the organizations and collectives of the world know about all of this.
with love, solidarity, and liberty, I*
I'm sorry my translation isn't perfect, and there were blanks of things i didn't know. My spanish isn't that great, but what I did understand, moved me enough that I had to translate it since no one else seemed to be doing so. Please do what you can.
