Gaza House Razing Renewed
An IDF helicopter attack yesterday in Gaza City killed three Hamas militants, and injured seven civilians, Palestinian sources reported. They said the three men were standing by a motorcycle in Gaza City's Zeitoun district.
One of those killed was identified by Hamas sources as Wael Nassar, a leader of the organization's military wing who had been pursued by Israel for years as a top terror suspect. Israeli sources said Nasser was behind the May 11 attack in which six IDF men were killed when their armored vehicle rolled over a mine, during a raid in Zeitoun.
Palestinian medics said three of the seven civilian wounded were in critical condition. A woman and two children were among the casualties, they said.
On Saturday night the IDF demolished about twenty Palestinian buildings along the Philadelphi road in Rafah. Palestinian sources said dozens of IDF tanks, armored personnel carriers and bulldozers, supported by helicopters, moved into the "G Block" area in southern Rafah before dawn yesterday morning.
Around midnight, they said, IDF helicopters fired at houses in the southern end of the Rafah refugee camp. These are houses located across from IDF bases on the Philadelphi road which were abandoned as a result of the army's recent Operation Rainbow, and due to gunfire clashes between IDF soldiers and armed Palestinians in past months.
Following the helicopter fire, the sources said, IDF troops circled about 10 buildings which were located about 150 meters from the Philadelphi road, and demolished them. The troops then moved inward, from the southern edge of the camp, and tore down several more houses.
