by Bay Area Anti-CAFTA Coalition (cacoalition [at] citizenstrade.org)
Rally and press conference to oppose CAFTA and request Leader Nancy Pelosi’s support for a new, democratic approach to globalization. Thursday May 27th 2004 @ 12:00pm at the Federal Building in San Francisco (near Civic Center BART @ 450 Golden Gate Ave).
(please forward this on to appropriate lists. apologies for cross postings)

Expansion of NAFTA Style Assault on

Workers, Women, Family Farmers, Immigrants and the Environment.

Coalition of Bay Area Groups Say NO to President Bush’s May 28th Signing of the

Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA)!

What: Rally and press conference to oppose CAFTA and request Leader Nancy Pelosi’s support for a new, democratic approach to globalization.

When/Where: Thursday May 27th 2004 @ 12:00pm at the Federal Building in San Francisco (near Civic Center BART @ 450 Golden Gate Ave).

Why: CAFTA can still be stopped. The assault of NAFTA style free trade must end. Free trade costs US jobs, destroys communities, family farmers and our environment, disproportionately harms women and immigrants, and undermines democracy.

Following recent WTO and Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) struggles, CAFTA becomes the strategic target for global justice activists interested in a new and democratic approach to globalization. Defeating CAFTA will force a rethinking of US trade policy, allowing us to inject our agenda during this election year.

Our Message: NAFTA style free trade has failed; the time for a balanced, democratic and sustainable approach to globalization is NOW.
