Currently Employed SCI-Green Prison Guard Supervised
Torture of Prisoners in Iraq; PA Officials Covering up his PA
Record
![charles_graner2.jpg"]()
Disturbingly, there is a direct link
between Abu Ghraib Prison and the State Correctional Institution at
Greene (SCI-Greene), a super-maximum security prison in western
Pennsylvania and home to the overwhelming majority of the state's
death row prisoners.
Cpl. Charles A. Graner,
Jr. [see picture, standing arms folded], an army reservist cited in
a military report as supervising the torture of Iraqi prisoners, is
CURRENTLY EMPLOYED as a prison guard at
SCI-Greene. This is the same prison that Mumia Abu-Jamal has been
imprisoned on death row at and published many accounts of
abuse and torture about, up to and including 2004.

5-6-04 First Press Release from Pennsylvania
Abolitionists United Against the Death Penalty (PAUADP) This urgent press release lays
out the case explaining how Charles A. Graner, Jr. is a supervising
torturer in Iraq and currently a long-term employee at SCI-Greene.
Graner was employed at SCI-Greene during a 1988 brutality scandel
but not charged. However, the SCI-Greene administration still
refuses to release the videotapes that resulted in the charges,
despite widespread charges of cover ups of abuse, so there is no
current way to document Graner's involvement or lack
of.
5-7-04 Second Press Release from Pennsylvania
Abolitionists United Against the Death Penalty (PAUADP) This press release recommends
more detailed solutions to ending abuse in SCI-Greene (a "zero
tolerance" of abuse policy and more) and ending abuse in Iraq
(firing abusive guards in the U.S. before they are unleased on
Iraqis).
5-10-04 Third Press Release from Pennsylvania
Abolitionists United Against the Death Penalty (PAUADP) The press release describes
SCI-Greene prisoner testimony about Charles Graner and his brutality
and abuse at SCI-Greene. It also describes the routine sexual
humiliation of prisoners disturbingly similar to practices employed
by Graner and another corrections officer in Iraq.
5-11-04 Fourth Press Release from Pennsylvania
Abolitionists United Against the Death Penalty (PAUADP) Announcing two forums
where a former SCI-Greene prisoner who interacted with Graner speaks
about Graner and his propensity for unprofessionalism and violence
pre-Iraq.
5-14-04 Graner Court Martialed Charles Graner
the torturer is finally court martialed! SCI-Greene may well be
forced to fire this unprofessional excuse for a guard. Read this
press release. Call the SCI-Greene authorities and demand "zero
tolerance for abuse." Fire Graner
now!
5-15-04 The Torture Scandal that Won't Go
Away Article speaks about the ongoing torture at
Guantanamo Bay and how the intense torture at Abu Ghraib began when
Major General Geoffrey Miller, the commander at Guantanamo, arrived
there in September 2003 and focussed the prison on interrogation,
specifically the tortorous interrogation practices used at
Guantanomo. Thus, the torture went beyond Charles Graner up to
Stephen Cambone and Donald Rumsfeld. Fire and jail all the
torturers.
