Israel must 'immediately' stop demolition of Palestinian homes: EU
Israel must "immediately" stop the destruction of Palestinian homes in the refugee camp of Rafah in the southern Gaza strip, the Irish presidency of the European Union said Friday.
"The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ireland, Brian Cowen, called on the Israeli government to halt its demolition of Palestinian homes in the town of Rafah in the Gaza Strip immediately," it said in a communique.
Cowen also recalled in his communique that the Middle East "quartet" -- the United States, the European Union, the United Nations and Russia -- had urged Israel at their May 4 meeting "to take steps to respect the dignity of the Palestinian people and improve their quality of life."
"The Quartet had also emphasised that Israel should refrain from demolition of Palestinian homes and property, as a punitive measure or to facilitate Israeli construction," he added.
The quartet has drafted an international roadmap for the creation of a Palestinian state by 2005. It was adopted by both sides at a summit in Jordan in June 2003 but very few of its points have been implemented.
Israel has said it would demolish hundreds of homes in Rafah, retaliating for the deaths of up to 13 of its soldiers this week in the southern Gaza strip near the border with Egypt.
The Israeli army has been systematically levelling the refugee camps of Rafah since the start of the Palestinian uprising in September 2000, making more than 11,000 people homeless, according to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

I suggest all of you Muslim lovers follow the example of you're hero Rachel Corrie. Her coffin was only 3 inches thick.
The Road Map endorsed by the U.S., U.N. E.U., and Russia calls for a Viable Palestinian State.
Why is Israel being allowed to participate in the above action that will make it harder and harder for that Viable State to be had.
To gain Arab Respect and trust we need to end hypocrisy and double standards.
We went to war with Iraq for WMD we cannot find and to free some 24,000,000 people from Saddam and yet we can do nothing to free some 4,000,000 Palestinians from the brutal Israeli occupation and oppression, and we can do nothing about Israel’s WMD.
Many Arab countries have already said more then once that they would recognize Israel if they would allow the Palestinian People to have their State in the Whole of the West Bank and Gaza.
Terrorists are Killers, Right?
Then why? since the Struggle for Palestinian Freedom began in Sept. 2000 the numbers killed are.
950 Israelis have died including 106 innocent children.
2922 Palestinians have died including 550 innocent children.
It seems to me the Israelis have less to retaliate about then the Palestinians. It seems to me that the Israelis are the ones who should stop confiscating Palestinian Land and demolishing Palestinian homes, so that the Palestinian People can have that so called Viable State and live in Peace.
