Call for Nonviolent Direct Action as part of the May 19 Halliburton Shareholder's
meeting Mobilization in Houston TX
Form your affinity groups for creative autonomous action now!!!
Come to the Halliburton Shareholder's meeting and bring your creative, vigorous
resistance.
As part of May 19 Halliburton Shareholder's Meeting Mobilization , the newly formed
Stop the War Profiteers Collective is calling for independent and autonomous actions
around Houston on Wednesday, May 19th. Nonviolent Direct Action has a long history
of bringing submerged issues to the surface. With our bodies and commitment, we can
bring the war profiteers issue to the foreground of downtown Houston in anticipation
for the Halliburton shareholder's meeting, Wednesday, May 19th.
To maximize our collective impact we suggest you discuss and plan your actions
before arriving. Nonviolent Direct Action doesn't necessarily mean that the action
has to end in an arrest scenario. Form an affinity group. Please take time to figure
out what kind of actions you are excited about and come with some of your
preparations done.
Additional preparations and trainings will be happening on Sunday, May 16th
beginning at 10 am at the Non-Violent Direct Action Workshops (see
http://www.houstonglobalawareness.org for details). Affinity Group Formation Meetings will
be scheduled at those trainings. There will be local people from Houston who can
offer input, as well as lawyers and other people with experience navigating the
legal system to help with risk assessment.
SOME IDEAS FOR POSSIBLE ACTIONS
- Street Theatre, die-ins and fake-executions in front of the entrances and inside
Halliburton headquarters at McKinney and Austin and the Four Seasons located at 1300
Lamar.
-Plant crosses with the names of victims of the Iraq war in the green areas around
Halliburton headquarters and the Four Seasons.
- Chalk body outlines on the sidewalks and in the streets around the Four Seasons
and Halliburton HQ.
- Banner drops and wheat-pasting.
- People with letter signs in front of the May 19th Halliburton Shareholder's
meeting, spelling out
STOP THE WAR PROFITEERS!!!

Many of the inspiring actions we have seen have been ideas that affinity groups have
brought with them and have included a framework for other people to participate in
various roles. If you are coming alone, or do not have an affinity group, please
reflect on how you would like to participate in the various kinds of nonviolent
direct action that might be occurring.
