1st Annual Trans/Intersex/Genderqueer Week!

The trans/intersex/genderqueer community ushers in Pride month with a late May week of events and performances celebrating gender/sex variant folks!

San Francisco, CA - After last year's hugely successful Trans/Intersex/Genderqueer (TIG) & Buddies Community Picnic, which brought together several hundred people in Dolores Park for a Sunday afternoon of entertainment, socializing and sun, members of the TIG community are taking things one step further this year, by putting on a series of performance and community-building events taking place throughout the last week of May. Since gender/sex variant folks tend to make up the last few letters of the LGBTIGQ acronym, it is only fitting that this First Annual TIG Week should take place during the last week of May, thus ushering in Queer Pride Month 2004!

Here are the events that have been scheduled thus far (in chronological order) – more may be added at a later date:

Saturday, May 22, 2004
The first event of TIG week is Unity 2004, a benefit for Transgender San Francisco (http://tgsf.org) and 2-Spirit (http://2-spirit.org). The event will be held at the LGBT Community Center (1800 Market St., SF) and will feature musical performances by Lipstick Conspiracy and Trans Central Station, plus special guests! The show will take place from 6-9pm, admission is $15 (includes refreshments). For more info, contact Kelly Marsh (theonestrider@hotmail.com).

Sunday, May 23, 2004
Please come out to the 2nd Annual Trans/Genderqueer/Intersex/Drag & Buddies Picnic for our spring celebration! This event, which will take place at Dolores Park at 19th Street during picnic time (noon or after), is meant to bring together the entire trans, genderqueer & intersex communities, including FTMs, MTFs, drag, bi and omnigender, two spirit, non-gender, androgynous, freaks, queers, punks, those who transcend the binary gender system, friends, family and allies. All
genders, ages, hormone levels and anatomies enthusiastically invited!

The picnic is a temporary autonomous space, belonging to and created by those who come. You are encouraged to take ownership by adding your creativity and effort to the ruckus. Art, performance, games, crafts, wrestling, kissing-booth, genderfuck salon, DJ, T-shirt making, Tranny Clothing Swap, more....! For
more info, contact kight (kightsolomente@hotmail.com).

Wednesday May 26, 2004
Gender Pirates will be throwing a benefit show for United Genders of the Universe (genderqueer/transgender support groups and gender education speaker's bureau) and the LYRIC Youth Talkline! Performers will include DJs Sam and Shanestar, tranny homo-hop artists Katastrophe and the Urban Hermitt, spoken word by MK and Sammer Arnaoot, and drag performances by Burlesque-Esque, Pop Tart, The Peter Pansies, and The Momma's Boyz. The Radical Cheerleaders will be your MC's. The show will take place at At El Rio (3158 Mission St., SF),
doors at 8:00, show 9-12 pm, DJ till 2, $5-15 sliding scale (no one turned away for lack of funds). For more info, contact Sam Davis (samdavis66@sbcglobal.net).

Thursday, May 27, 2004
GenderEnders returns after a several month hiatus with this special "Tranny Lovers Show!". To our knowledge, this is the first event to feature artists who have been, or currently are, the partners of trans people. Our features will include Michelle Tea, Meliza Bañales, Annalee Newitz, Clare Lewis, plus a few other special guests and a performance open mic. Attendees are encouraged to bring their music, spoken word, stand-up comedy, performance art, or any other type of
performance to the event. As always, the show will be hosted by Julia Serano. We are at a new location: Femina Potens (465 South Van Ness
(at 16th St), SF), open mic sign-up at 8pm, show at 8:30pm, All Ages, cover $5-7 (sliding scale - all proceeds after costs will be donated to Camp Trans (http://www.camptrans.org)). More information about the show can be found at http://www.genderenders.com or by contacting Julia Serano (hi@juliaserano.com)
