# PERFORMANCE PARADE/PROCESSION/PROTEST
TUESDAY MAY 4 11am-12 noon
-MEET 11AM at UNITED NATIONS PLAZA (civic center bart) Fulton/Hyde
-PARADE STARTS 11:10AM SHARP! MARCHING TOWARDS CITY HALL STEPS (Polk)
-MEDIA EVENT: ARTFEST PRESS CONFERENCE 11:30-12:00
We are looking for performance artists, musicians, sound artists, and
noisemakers, instruments and non-instruments of all sizes, people of all
ages "expressing" themselves etc. for a parade/procession/demonstration to
the City Hall press conference for ArtSFest 2004 Tue May 4 from 11-12pm.
(Bring banners, streamers, noisemakers, sound makers, instruments, marching
bands, costumes that expresses yourself etc) WHY:
The performance piece is part celebration/part protest. It is about FREE
SOUND, freeing your mind of what sound is, what it can be, and what it means
in our lives. FREE SOUND, on a more serious note, is about the increasing
attacks to our freedom of expression, freedom to create, freedom to
hear/listen and freedom of speech by the Bush regime and the FCC. NOTE: THIS
WILL BE AN IMPROMPTU SURPRISE PARADE.

# Mother’s Day Veal Demo Information:
In memory of all the calves tormented by the veal industry
and who will never know their mothers, Farm Sanctuary is holding a
Mother’s Day protest against the cruelties of veal production.
Sun May 9 5:30 p.m. outside of Ruth's Chris Steakhouse at 1601 Van Ness
Signs and leaflets will be provided, and a video presentation about
veal production will be ongoing throughout the demo.
Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is a nationwide restaurant chain that serves
such dishes as “Veal Chop with Sweet and Hot Peppers”
Behind the glowing menu description is the grim, hard fact that veal
production is one of the most inherently cruel animal agriculture industries.
Calves raised for veal are separated from their mothers at birth and
chained by their necks inside tiny, box-like wooden crates that are
too small to allow for normal movement.
They are deliberately kept in a continuously ill and weak state,
to ensure their "meat" is soft and pale at slaughter.
Our nationwide effort on Mother’s Day continues our efforts to
educate the public about veal production
cruelties and persuade restaurants to take veal off their menus.

The Art of Resistance Political Artists' Conference
The 2004 conference is the first annual gathering of political artists
from around the country and the world. The conference will consist of two
days of workshops, speakers and events exploring political art.
Conference participants will receive hands-on skills and practical
knowledge, a broader understanding of the history and current state of
political art and benefit from the rare opportunity of being able to spend
a weekend in a building full of political artists from across the country.
We hope to strengthen the movement of artists for global justice by
linking together communities of artists whether geographically bound or
connected by specific issue.
