Bike Library Needs New Home
After 9 years in its current home, the Baatt Cave Bicycle Library in north Oakland is facing eviction and needs to find a new space.
For the past 9 years, the Baatt Cave Bicycle Library in north Oakland has kept activists and others moving by providing tools, manuals, donated parts and frames, and a workspace for countless folks to repair their bicycles or assemble one from scratch for free. Now the new evil landlord who claims ownership of the property wants it gone and the search is on for a suitable location for its reincarnation. The all-volunteer staff of the Library is examining its options and we would love to hear from anyone who may be able to offer either temporary storage or a new permanent or semi-permanent home in the north Oakland/south Berkeley area. We anticipate being evicted anytime in the next one to two months. The Library currently occupies about half of a two-car garage and would need a similar amount of space, hopefully rent-free since we have always operated with next to no budget. And of course we are always interested in new volunteers, too!
