Education not Incarceration subsumed?
While I support the anti-war events taking place in the next two days, I don't feel good that the event that so many people from the Oakland community worked to plan for Education not Incarceration is being subsumed by it on this site. Our event is its own entity and I ask that you treat it as such. I feel like our event, which is being organized by a multi-racial group that is predominately people of color and is addressing issues that are deeply affecting communities of color should not be de-prioritized or pushed into the marjins by an anti-war movement that has been predominately white.

I do want to thank folks for including our info and making links to it!! People from ENI are psyched that it has been up there this week, and I respect that other events are big and important this weekend as well, just please, please cover us as our own event if you can find a way.

btw,
indybay's student activism page needs editors (too few people covering too many stories). if you're interested in helping out email sfbay-editorial [at] indymedia.org or come to a meeting next month.

My mistake. I remembered reading one of the DASW action callouts and I am pretty certain that they listed your event as part of the Days of Resistance. It has been changed on both the front page and anti-war page. Sorry for the confusion. We definately did not want to subsume your action.
Anyway, like the person said above, we could definately use a volunteer to focus on Oakland community issues. If you are interested in getting involved, it would be great!
solidarity!

DASW has been listing us amongst their events for this weekend and I want to thank them for that, but we haven't been planning our event as part of their series, they are just helping us get the word out. Thank you much for changing it!!!
I don't feel like I have time to develop the website around Oakland issues, but I could find out if someone in ENI would like to. What does it involve exactly? You could e-mail me at jzern1 [at] yahoo.com if you'd like and/or post back and I'll do my best to remember to check here.

Jonah your comments seem a little bit harsh above, especially when you don't really have any understanding of how indybay tends to work. If ENI folks would like to help us develop our coverage of ENI related stuff that would be great. As it is we are just trying to do as much as possible on a volunteer level, and many of the indybay folks do a lot of other stuff besides indybay. Those of us that do put more energy into the site, try our best, but it is hard to always be updating stuff and no one is currently dedicated strictly to education or student stuff so it makes coverage even more difficult.
At any rate the reason ENI's May Day stuff got "subsumed" into the anti-war events is likely because a person of color that is working on the days of mourning and resistance included it in the publicity/outreach for the days. That is my theory and I am pretty sure it is sound.
I'll leave it at that for now. Good luck at the ENI event and we will try and get someone there to cover the event with pictures at least, though it would help if someone else writes the reportback for the event and posts it, since it is better for the info to come from someone who is more involved in the event.

Thank you. I know it was an honest mistake and I don't blame you all. You are all doing fantastic work!! I'm sorry to be a little snappy about it. Again, thank you to DASW for listing us on their program, but we have not really been actively included in this planning process and I'd like us to be continued to be listed as our own event. In the future I hope we can collaborate in deeper ways.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
