Navigating the Space Between Brilliance and
Madness: A Reader and Roadmap
of Bipolar Worlds, by The Icarus Project

Thursday Night April 29th 7-9pm
AK Press Warehouse

Come join Sascha Scatter and Ashley McNamara of
The Icarus Project to celebrate the release of
an amazing little volume of writing that just
might end up changing the way people talk about
bipolar disorder (also known as manic
depression) and mental illness as a whole.
Currently most books on these subjects are
written by single, authoritative voices who
very rarely experience the "disorders" they
define and even when they do they unilaterally
endorse the mainstream medical model of mental
illness. Up until now there has been next to
nothing published by bipolar people themselves
who are critical of capitalism and big
business, skeptical of the pharmaceutical
industry and mainstream conceptions of
"normal", but who struggle daily with the
compromises and complicated decisions we must
make to have a chance at holding our ground in
an insane world.

As people diagnosed with bipolar disorder,
we've assembled the beautiful and jagged pieces
of our collective experiences, the lessons and
the dreams, the scars and the wisdom, to give
you a sense from the inside of what it's like
to live with this particular breed of madness,
and to offer a set of roadmaps from people who
are making it through. We've drawn stories from
letters, journals, articles, and the forums of
the Icarus Project website, an online community
where a brilliant group of bipolar people from
all over the world have come together to talk
about everything from the spiritual dimensions
of mania to reconciling psych drugs with
radical politics.

Come join the dialogue.
