GMO Free Yolo?

by moth
Since Mendocino voters GMO Free ballot measure passed, other counties in CA and elsewhere are also collecting signatures to protect their food from GMO pollen drift from biotech crops. Here's a challenge, how about a GMO Free Yolo?
Yolo county CA is home to UC Davis, a large university known for getting funding from biotech corporations. Though the study of agriculture should also include the innovative style of agroforestry (valley oaks and black walnuts), permaculture, companion planting (3 sisters = maize, beans and squash), indigenous methods of native plant harvesting, instead it seems the focus is usually on researching new biotech inventions, inserting a gene from another species into the test subject plant with a gene gun, letting the genetically altered pollen fly all over the Sacramento Valley..

The Biodemocracy Alliance webpage lists other counties collecting signatures to have a GMO free ballot measure similar to Mendocino, while the biotech giants like Monsanto are lobbying hard to make it illegal for other counties to pass similar laws. With the support of Terminator Arnold, they can easily pass the money off to research institutions like UC DAvis that encourage pro-biotech research. Since taxpayer money that should be used for education is diverted to the military for the continued occupation of Iraq and Palestine, that leaves a vacuum of funding needs that the biotech corporations are eager to fill..

Students at Davis have a right to education that is not biased in favor of biotech corporations. Funding for college education is a must, the taxpayer money wasted on military nuclear missiles needs to be returned to the students for public education free of corporate biotech influence..

If farmers and students in Yolo could get together a GMO Free Yolo ballot measure, the biotech corporations would be exposed in their funding and influence in the college realm..

Here is the list of other counties working to get a GMO free ballot measure..
