Protests Continue to Defend Abnaa El Balaad Movement in Palestine

by Socialist Palestine
VIGIL AT JALAME DETENTION CENTER: STOP THE TORTURE AND INHUMANITY! FREE THE POLITICAL DETAINEES AND PRISONERS!
The Kishon (Jalame) detention center houses one of the Shabak facilities at which torture is routinely practiced (see report a htttp://http://www.stoptorture.org.il/eng/publications.asp?menu=5&submenu=1 ), and at which detainees are subjected to cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, in violation of both Israeli and international law concerning the rights of detainees and prisoners.

Muhammad Kan'ane, general secretary of Abna elBalad movement, and his brother Husam Kan'ane, activist in the same movement, were arrested on February 7, and have since been kept in the Shabak section for 57 days, in crowded holding cells (3m x 3m for 6 people), without windows, for 24 hours a day. Even after they were indicted, on March 4, they are denied their rights as protected by law to: leave the cell for any daily exercise; receive any visits from family members; send or receive letters; contact their family or their attorneys by telephone; receive or to hold any books and newspapers; possess a radio, pens and paper; receive basic hygienic supplies such as toothbrushes and toothpaste; have a daily shower; and sleep on a bed. They are forced to sleep on mattresses on the floor of their holding cell using dirty blankets supplied by the Detention Center. Toilet facilities are inside of the cell without any separation, providing no privacy to users or to the others held in the cell. The Detention Center ignored previous court judgments ordering it to implement the minimum rights and conditions as provided by law. See more details
on the case at http://www.adalah.org .

The Vigil, Organized By The Abna El-Balad Movement, Will Protest The Cruel, Inhumane, And Illegal Conditions At The Shabak Cell-Block In Jalame, Israel's Routine Use Of Torture At This And Other Shabak Centers, And Demand The Release Of All Political Detainees And Prisoners!
