U.S. straights becoming more tolerant
Good news; plus SF events.
A new L.A. Times poll shows straights becoming much more accepting of queers, over the past twenty years in the USA.
This attitude improvement is generational. Young adults (18-29) are much more favorable to queers than elders (65+) are, on average. So future demographic changes favor increasing acceptance. (Note carefully: This generalization refers only to huge classes of people, not to individuals. Old liberals and progressives do exist, and so do young fascists.)
Nationwide, around one quarter of Yanks say same-sex marriage should be allowed. Another 38% approve of Vermont-style civil unions for same-sex couples, but not marriages per se. On the extreme right, 34% wouldn't even allow civil unions.
On marriage issues, Massachusetts voters express more progressive views.
