4/3: Northern California Socialist Conference 2004

by ISO
RESISTING US EMPIRE
FIGHTING FOR A BETTER WORLD
Northern California Socialist Conference 2004
+ Marx in Soho, a play by Howard Zinn
Saturday, April 3, 10am to 8pm, UC Berkeley
Dwinelle Hall

The Times They Are A Changin'

Thousands of lgbt couples are getting married, millions support their
right to.
Iraqis are resisting the US occupation, tens of thousands will take to
the streets on March 20.
The UFCW Safeway strikers showed that workers are willing to fight for
their futures.
April 25 will be the biggest pro-choice rally in more than a decade.
And campaign to stop the execution of Kevin Cooper shows we can make a
difference.

BUT... all these important actions face enormous obstacles. The courts
and the bigots are trying to drive same sex couples back into the
closet. South Dakota just banned abortion in almost all cases, laying
the legal basis for overturning Roe v. Wade. Anti-war activists often
don't see HOW we can get the US out of Iraq. After a 5 month strike,
the UFCW Safeway workers accepted a terrible contract, cutting health
and wages for many workers. And, Kevin Cooper is still on death row. To
top it all off, John Kerry is hardly a radical alternative to Bush.
Meanwhile,
almost the whole liberal establishment has joined in villifying Ralph
Nader for even considering challenging the two-party system in 2004.

It's time to start asking some hard questions. We want to hear your
ideas and strategies about how to fight for a better world. And we want
to try to convince you that building a socialist movement in the US has
to be a part of any serious movement towards peace and justice. Join us
for a day of political debates, discussions and dialogues and top it
all off by attending...
