Dear Councilman De La Fuente April 1, 2004

It is with great sadness that I write to you regarding
your mistreatment of Father Donald Weeks and St.
Patricks Abbey.

I have listened to the news reports, watched the
evening news, read the papers and have spoken with the
good Father. I have been to the Abbey, and it appeared
quite clean and lovely.

I have tried to keep an open mind about the attacks
being heaped upon Father Weeks by youself and City
Officials ever since he offered assistance to Cary
Verse.

I read the quotes of you claiming that Father Weeks is
not a real priest, and checked with your office to see
if you actually said that. There was no denial from
your staff.

I have observed what appears to be every possible
dirty trick being used to publicly discredit the
Priest and the Abbey as a means to shut them down and
run them out of town.

I have read about the trumped up charges dating back 8
to 10 years ago that are based upon the allegations of
a police informant or jail house snitch.

Now that this Priest is near death in intensive care
at the hospital after having his Abbey and Church
ransacked by hired guns, are we really supposed to
feel any safer? I think not!

Are we safer now that 20 some people are facing
homelessness due to your unrelenting attacks
upon them at the Abbey? I think not!

Do you really think that we the citizens of Oakland
believe that this 60 some year old Priest had a crack
pipe in his room just because someone said so? Have
you ever heard of the Riders?

With great interest I read the quotes being offered by
Mona Breed of Sentinel Housing who receives money from
the City of Oakland. For years before Measure EE went
into effect, every one knows that Mona was always the
first to tell people that they can't fight their
evictions and that they need to run from the landlords
to avoid receipt of an unlawful detainer notice.

It's no crime to be behind on rent, and as far as
landlords go, the City and Oakland Housing Authority
have been rated as the worst notorious slumlords of
Oakland by your own office when you compiled the list
of the Dirty Dozen!

I feel deeply troubled by what has happened to Father
Donald Weeks and St. Patricks Abbey, and I fully
understand why he believes that you are a thug and
that you should never become the Mayor of Oakland.

You dear sir represent the worst of who we are as a
City of People in the beautiful City of Oakland, and I
am prepared to sign a recall petition to remove you
from office.

There seems to be alot of hot air going around in
regards to the allegations against Father Weeks, and
other than being known for helping out those that are
in need, he is still innocent until proven guilty, no
matter what you want us to believe.

You are a thug, and a despicable character that has
deeply shamed the City of Oakland. I believe that you
owe Father Weeks and the City of Oakland an apology
for your ill tempered behaviour and need to clear out
your desk at City Hall to make room for someone that
knows how to use the power of the people with
fairness, integrity and dignity.

You and your henchmen are a disgrace to all of us, and
there is no shame in telling you so.

I dread to think of all the malicious mischief your
goons will get into once they have the power of the
Nuisance Eviction Ordinance (NEO) in place to use
snitches and wrongful evictions as a means to gentrify
the City of Oakland.

People need to be at the April 6 City Council Meeting,
to make sure that you will never have the power of the
NEO to abuse.

Sincerely

Lynda Carson
