by ...and its attendant atrocities.
The wall thing seems to me a fine example of collective denial. The fact is, that Arabs aren't going away. Israel got plunked down in the middle of about 350M of them.

The real question is: What is Israel going to give back in order to buy itself some peace? Or will it opt for endless war, in violation of its own, and global, conscience?

Figures like Sharon are just a distraction and a delaying tactic from answering that question. If I were a big fan of the Jewish state (which I neither inherently oppose, mind you), I'd be mad as hell that it got stuck in the middle of the Muslim world instead of, say, Bavaria. Which would have been closer to justice in 1948?

But there you have it. The wall is like shutting your eyes. It won't make the problems on the other side of it go away. Only the behavior of the Jewish state, and the spiritual growth of the people it ostensibly serves, can achieve that. Jewish culture, itself a miracle, is uniquely suited to perform such a miracle. All the world would benefit from the example of war transformed to peace.

So the only question one can really ask is, how long will we wait for this change? Will it be as soon as Sharon's death? Will it cost the Jewish state as we wait for it?

People die meanwhile, a tragedy for all sides. That makes this a question worth answering sooner.
