A rally to protest the unfair and discriminatory firing of SA by the City of Oakland will be held on the steps of Oakland City Hall, located at 1 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 5:00 PM. In the anti-immigrant climate caused by the U.S. government’s “War on Terrorism”, Aghamir, an 11-year City civil engineer, trade unionist, community activist and KPFA Radio producer of “Voices of the Middle East and North Africa” was singled out and wrongfully terminated in December 2002.While he was reinstated in September of 2003, he is currently awaiting a decision by an arbitrator on whether or not he will receive his back pay. SA is represented by IFPTE Local 21 and has the support of the Central Labor Council of Alameda County. Speakers at the rally will include journalists from KPFA Radio, members of the National Lawyers Guild and labor leaders.
