Party Tomorrow in Solidarity with Haiti
Get your groove on, show your solidarity, and contribute to an Emergency Relief Fund set up for Haitian activists and their families who are under attack since the U.S. backed coup.
A fundraising party will be held in Oakland on Friday night, March 26, 2004, to raise money for the Haiti Emergency Relief fund established by Vanguard Public Foundation.
Haitian activists and community organizers desperately need our help. They and their families our being hunted down, imprisoned and killed by U.S. armed thugs while U.S. Marines stand guard over the centers of power. Our Haitian sisters, brothers, and their families who are under attack are guilty only of struggling to organize in their communities - teaching people how to read and write, organizing labor unions and peasant organizations, bringing healthcare to the poor, building grassroots democracy, and supporting their elected President, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, and the political party Fanmi Lavalas (Waterfall Family).
The U.S. government backs this bloody and illegal coup and the U.S. Marines were used to kidnap President Aristide and spirit him and his wife out of the country. The U.S. government is on the side of the Haitian rich and the butchers from the Haitian Army which President Aristide had disbanded. Haitian activists and their supporters haven't given up. It is up to us to stand on their side - many lives are at stake.
Show your solidarity by attending an Old School Dance Party in downtown Oakland which will raise funds for this time of emergency. The party will feature a live D.J., a special performance by the band Modock, and lots of food and beverages. There is no admission charge, but funds will be solicited (bring your check book if you are so moved, but cash in any amount is welcome too). No one will be turned away for lack of funds. One hundred percent of the funds collected will go to the Haiti Emergency Relief fund. The party will begin at 8pm tomorrow at:
The Humanist Hall
390 27th Street (between Broadway & Telegraph)
Oakland, CA
(wheelchair accessible)
Checks may also be mailed to the Vanguard Public Foundation, 383 Rhode Island St., Suite 301, San Francisco, CA 94103. Checks should be made payable to "Haiti Emergency Relief/Vanguard". Donations can also be made online through Vanguard's website http://www.vanguardsf.org using Pay Pal.
