Iraq War's First Anniversary Demonstrations In Los Angeles, California

Hollywood, CA. March 20, 2004: Tens of thousands of demonstrators turned out for the first anniversary anti-war protests in the center of the city of Hollywood, California. The march traveled about a 1.5 mile starting at Hollywood Boulevard and Vine and ending in front of the Kodak Theater at Highland and Hollywood.

Police presence was visible but appeared to take a back seat as demonstrators marched holding signs, wearing costumes, pushing parade sized floats, and holding up wall sized murals in order to express their voices in opposition to the war in Iraq.

At the front of the marching protestors in his signature wheelchair aparatus was war veteran Ron Kovic who later spoke at the end of the march ralley before thousands of cheering demonstrators.

The march started shortly after 12 noon, and peacefully ended a little after 4:30 p.m. in the evening. Performing artists played music and sang as demonstrators slowly subsided down city streets carrying what survived of their signs, voices and energy.
