4/25 Pro-abortion march on Washington; S.D. bans abortion

by Socialist feminist
The April 25, 2004 March on Washington for our right to abortion comes just as South Dakota, Democrats & Republicans together, passed a ban on abortion, which SD's Gov. Mike Rounds is expected to sign.
The April 25, 2004 March on Washington for our right to abortion comes just as South Dakota, Democrats & Republicans together, passed a ban on abortion, which SD's Gov. Mike Rounds is expected to sign.

The story on South Dakota's attack on Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision mandating safe and legal abortions in the US, may be found at the site of the National Organization of Women, at:

According to the NARAL press release,
"The South Dakota bill makes performing an abortion at any time during pregnancy a felony, potentially outlaws many forms of contraception, and declares that life and constitutional rights begin at conception"

THE ENTIRE MEDICAL COMMUNITY SHOULD BE OUTRAGED AT THIS ATTACK ON THEM AND ON WOMEN, as well as the obvious attack on science.

Our right to abortion is under constant attack, as the following brief descriptions demonstrate.

At the federal level, says NARAL, "Congress has banned access to abortion for virtually every woman who depends on the federal government for her health care, including Medicaid recipients, women in the military and military dependents stationed overseas, women in federal prisons, Native American women, federal employees, and even Peace Corps volunteers. Anti-choice lawmakers have used the appropriations process to restrict access to reproductive health care, here and abroad, at virtually every turn."

At the state level,
"In 2003, states enacted 45 new anti-choice measures.
The cumulative effect of enacted anti-choice legislation is staggering: 380 anti-choice measures have been enacted since 1995."

The April 25, 2004 March on Washington is the long overdue march for abortion that must send a clear message to Congress, the courts and the White House that any attack on women, including our right to abortion, will not be tolerated. More information on this march may be found at:
