Pictures From Rally For Schools At Oakland City Hall
On March 16 there was an Oakland City Council hearing on school closures. State Administrator Randolph Ward has threatened to close five Oakland elementary schools in predominately low income African American and Latino communities. Meanwhile, Alameda County is spending 177 million dollars to build a new prison for children.
Parents, teachers, union members, church members, elected officials and concerned citizens of the Coalition Against School Closures rallied and spoke before the City Council Tuesday.

I don't know about you guys, but going to these meetings is a sickening experience for me - I feel like someone just sucked all of my organs out. That's how empty it feels. They lie to your face, and even if they escort one of them out of the room due to all the ruckus, they're prepared, and they block the will of the people at every turn, protecting the cops, the landlords, and anyone else they're afraid of.
