Camejo takes the lead

by Green
In every case of significant social, political and economic change in human history, the protagonists of change have had to reject the argument that they should be careful and not rock the boat. While challenging the two party system has significant short-term costs, the longer we wait to break free of corporate rule, the more costly (and hence unlikely) it becomes.

Camejo takes the lead

Peter Camejo won 99 of 132 state delegates in the California primaries, garnering 75.4 percent of the vote. Even though he is only on the ballot in a handful of states, Peter is now well out in front of all other candidates in the race for the Green Party presidential nomination.

As many on you know Camejo has been somewhat reluctant to run (due to the rigors of the gubernatorial and recall campaigns), even though his nomination would be a strategic step towards building a long-term proactive political movement.

This reluctance, however, may be slowly changing. Recently, the Draft Camejo committee made the petition know to Peter, who stated he was very impressed by the support he was receiving from Greens and progressives around the county.

It is time, however, for a full court press. If you believe that we need to build a strategic proactive political movement that can one day challenge the corporate parties then please ask you friends and neighbors to sign the Draft Camejo Petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/pcfp1234/petition.html

In every case of significant social, political and economic change in human history, the protagonists of change have had to reject the argument that they should be careful and not rock the boat. While challenging the two party system has significant short-term costs, the longer we wait to break free of corporate rule, the more costly (and hence unlikely) it becomes.

Those of us who seek to democratize society must confront this basic strategic dilemma head on. We must choose either the path that maintains conditions as they are, or one that builds towards an alternative future.

As Camejo stated in the Avocado Declaration, “the call [to vote] for the lesser evil is what makes the greater evil possible. There is nothing more threatening to the rule of the corporations than the consolidation of a party of hundreds of thousands of citizens that fearlessly tells the truth to the American people.”

Peter Camejo can articulate that truth better than any other candidate currently vying for the party’s nomination and is clearly the strategic choice to help build a stronger Green party for the future.
