Berkeley City Council votes to support censure of President Bush

President Bush can breathe a little easier today, assuming he cares what Berkeley thinks: The City Council voted not to ask Congress to impeach him and Vice President Cheney. Instead, it settled for requesting a milder sanction: formal censure.

"I abhor the man," said Mayor Tom Bates, who was on the prevailing side. "He's easily been the worst president in my lifetime. But how do you expect a Republican congress to seriously address impeachment? If we go ahead with this, they'll just say, 'Look at what those crazy people in Berkeley did!' It will be a farce."

But Councilwoman Dona Spring held out for impeachment.

"Bush was never elected; he took over in a coup," she said to boisterous applause from the overwhelmingly pro-impeachment audience. "He should be put in jail."

Let's not forget the image of Tom Bates trolling for newspapers the night before election, sloppily throwing them away and scrurring off like a cockroach thinking he would never be caught.

He dares to say who or what is a farce; look in the mirror my friend. Bush is a crook, but Tom Bates doesn't fall far from the tree.

You get what you pay for.

It was bad enough with Shirley Dean Queen of Mean, but now we have a real buffoon on our hands.

But why are we even having the discussion? Everyone knows the REAL Berkeley City Council is the UCB Board of Regents. Berkeley is not a real jurisdiction. It is a company town. Correction: It is the fiefdom of Lawrence Livermore Labs.

How sad, yet true....
