Major Haiti Democracy Rally
Planned Friday in Sacramento;
Int'l Haiti Experts to Participate

SACRAMENTO – A major rally to "Save Democracy in Haiti" – featuring local and national experts on the Haitian crisis – will be held Friday, March 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the Federal Courthouse, 5th & I Streets.

A news briefing is set for 10:15 a.m.

The rally – expected to be very well attended – was quickly organized this week by a coalition of peace and social justice organizations, and specifically the Faculty of Peace and Justice, representing more than 100 professors at CSUS, and CSUS Peace Action and Progressive Student Union.

The groups urge a restoration of democracy in Haiti, support a call by the Congressional Black Caucus to convene a Congressional Investigation into the role the U.S. played in the coup in Haiti and seek the replacement of U.S. and French troops in Haiti with United Nations Peacekeepers.

Among those speaking are: Ahjamu Umi, senior organizer of the All African People's Revolutionary Party, Pan-African, socialist political party; Rev. Angelo Fazio, a Haitian expert familiar with Pres. Aristide; Prof. Paul W. Burke, JD, CSUS; and Pat Driscoll, founder, Veterans for Peace.

Also among those invited to speak are U.S. representatives Robert Matsui, Doug Ose, John Doolittle, U.S. Senators Barbara Boxer, and other local officials including Mayor Heather Fargo.

We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
