BE THERE!! SPEAK UP!!

by shoulda listened to yer mom...
well now the tantrum's over. daddy's home, and there's gonna be a reckonin'...

i do hope like hell we dont get the shit spanked out of us this election over this issue, especially as it was obviously a no-starter. but that's what one gets from dollar-appointed, unaccountable "community" leadership. dubya's wedge issue, a consolation prize in that is assures a continued supply of activists... next time, i want a vote before someone goes and "commits" us all to their issue.

is it so much to ask? a lousy little vote first? i mean, we manage it for the gay empress, right? what about my needs?

i hope it felt good for you, because that's about all anyone's gonna get out of this. to say nothing of thousands of couples put through an emotional ringer for the mere sake of someone's ill-thought-out, disposable political "strategy." so disposable.

hey, it worked for gav's career. now there's a silver lining. thanks gav! can't hardly wait for that welfare reform.

strategy, strategy! i go crying in the wilderness. timing is everything. is there anybody, out there?

Please...Why be so fearful? Did deople vote for rosa parks to sit down on the bus? Get behind it or just get out of the way. This is a civil rights issue. But why oppose it at this point assuming you are for civil rights? A little self hatred?

Yes, she had been elected secretary of the Montgomery NAACP, which in 1955 decided to set up a test case to challenge the legality of segregated bus seating and to woo public opinion with a series of protests.
Although three black women had been arrested earlier that year for similar acts of defiance, and Rosa Parks herself had been thrown off a bus by the same driver 12 years before, this time the opponents of segregation were prepared to mount a counterattack. ...

Gay marriage advocate(s), around here anyways, never respond to issues like:

* the unelected, unaccountable nature of gay "community" leadership;

* the antidemocratic nature of same;

* class divisions in the gay ghetto, and they way that middle class gays, at least here in San Francisco, have politically mobilized to support criminalization and other attacks on the single most vulnerable population among us (the homeless, straight or gay), *while* demanding social tolerance and respect for diversity from everyone else;

* the way this particular pet issue of theirs plays into our mortal enemies' hands without tangibly extending any benefit to most gays, married or not.

However, when any of these questions are raised, we hear about how people like myself are:

* homophobic,
*self-haters,
* fearful,

&c &c which is to say, the controverter is always attacked, belittled and dismissed on a personal level rather than any of their real issues ever being engaged.

This is not only buorgeois politics to a "t," it is also why the "queer" rights movement (or whatever you want to call it) repeatedly flounders under such misleadership, positing no-win assimilation tactics (remember "gays in the military"?) with little grassroots support and little long-term strategizing.

Such failures combine with a certain perception of selfishness to constantly undercut any real coalition building with other oppressed communities, for things that might actually help people, like healthcare or a right to shelter or education.

Fearful? Ha. No, I'm already living the nightmare, and surviving it without you, thanks. Contemptuous, more like it. Enjoy your tantrum, the rest of us will be paying for it for some time to come. That is to say, enjoy your
