Meet LeiLani Dowell, Congressional Candidate in the 8th District for the Peace and Freedom Party, as her campaign kicks off this Monday, March 8th from 8pm - 11pm at The Transfer, 198 Church Street at Market.

LeiLani Dowell is a 26-year old worker and lesbian of African American and Hawaiian descent. She is a labor studies student at San Francisco State University. A resident of the Mission District, she has worked as a pre-school teacher, union organizer and office worker. Dowell is a socialist, a member of Workers World Party and Peace and Freedom Party. Dowell has been a youth organizer and media spokesperson for International A.N.S.W.E.R. over the last two years, working to oppose the U.S. war on Iraq. Dowell has traveled to Colombia, Venezuela and El Salvador in solidarity with the anti-imperialist struggles in Latin America. As a worker, lesbian of color and political activist, she will continue to fight for the rights of all workers.

LeiLani Dowell's grass roots campaign is against racism, war and homophobia.  It is one that will break through the media circus around the election season and talk about real issues like homelessness, the crisis in health and human services, the deterioration of our schools and the bloated military budget.

The rich have their candidates; we need our own!
