Stop CAFTA, Stop the FTAA!

by Global Exchange
In the face of growing opposition from developing countries in
multinational forums such as CAFTA and the FTAA, the Bush administration is now turning to an
emphasis on bilateral trade deals in an effort to bully our smaller Central
American trade partners into accepting painful concessions on trade.
Dear Global Justice Supporters,

After stunning setbacks for the free trade agenda at the FTAA Ministerial in
Miami and the WTO Ministerial in Cancun, the frontlines of the fight against
corporate globalization have been pushed back to Central America.

In the face of growing opposition from developing countries in these
multinational forums, the Bush administration is now turning to an
emphasis on bilateral trade deals in an effort to bully our smaller Central
American trade partners into accepting painful concessions on trade.

The Central American Free Trade Agreement - headed to Congress this June -
would expand the failed NAFTA model of international trade throughout
Central America and the Caribbean, threatening workers rights, driving
farmers off the land, and undermining our democracy.

Student groups, labor unions, farmers and faith based groups from around the
world have been mobilizing to stop this latest attempt to subvert our
democracy and privatize our healthcare, education and water.

Join the fight against CAFTA and help stop this latest assault on our
democracy from becoming a stepping stone to the FTAA! Visit the new
Global Exchange CAFTA resource page and find out how you can bring
the fight against free trade to your home town:

Call your member of Congress and tell them to Say No to CAFTA
and Yes to Fair Trade!

Members of Congress have been hearing a lot from their constituents these
days about the negative impacts of trade. Tell them to stop outsourcing our
jobs and democracy with trade agreements like CAFTA and FTAA and start
organizing for trade agreements that protect our communities.

For some guidelines on how a future fair trade agreement might look ask them
to endorse the Fair Trade for Our Future Resolution (H. Con. Res. 276) For
some talking points on CAFTA, details on the Fair Trade for Our Future
Resolution and help contacting your Congressperson click here:
