come along for a few days and help people save the Mattole's old growth Doug fir forests from corporate plunder by MAXXAM/Pacific Lumber.
Join this FUN, NON-Violent community action 2 raise awareness & inspire people of Humboldt and beyond 2 stand up 2 MAXXAM/PL's corporate plunder of the MATTOLE watershed..
leaving McKinleyville on March 18th, through Arcata and Eureka (solidarity with global peace march on 20th), further south 2 Fox Camp Gate (near Honeydew) which leads to Humboldt Redwoods State Park and unique old growth Douglas Fir forest under attack by MAXXAM/Pacific Lumber..
Why march?
Return Mattole to the local community, no more corporate control..
STOP the following;
clearcuts (massive soil erosion, stream sedimentation, visible clay)
old growth logging (no habitat 4 marbled murrlets, flying squirrels, rare lichen, etc)
herbicide use (run off into streams and rivers, toxins absorbed into food chain, bioaccumulation)
logging on unstable slopes (erosion, etc.)
if u would like to march any of the segment 4 any amount of time/days, (estimated 10 days total) a map and itinerary will soon be available. people can bring musical instruments, signs warm clothes, puppets, etc. live action theater and plays may occur spontaneously!!
bike carts will be available to help carry items, we need help putting together a snail shell roof/top 4 a bike cart. (es car go) We would like to use pampas grass and weave the spiral snail shell into a waterproof thermal insulation shell 4 riders in the bike cart. we also need help putting together a mobile bike repair caravan. We are currently working in the Arcata bike library near the plaza, any volunteers to help would be great.
We ask people show support by;
housing marchers 4 a night along route
post signs of support in your yard
donate food
celebrate & rally at Fox Camp Gate
Together we can show our love for Madre Tierra and the forests!!
