by upton sinclair

That term expired on March 1. That deadline has passed and the new governor, Arnold, has not yet acted. Urge the Gov. to re-appoint Dolores Huerta.

SAMPLE LETTER
Please re-appoint Dolores Huerta to the University of California Board of Regents.

Ms. Huerta is the only Latina representative from the San Joaquin Valley. She represents low-income populations and people of color. Ms. Huerta has a strong sense of student and faculty needs from teaching students from the elementary through university levels and lecturing throughout California, including all UC campuses, and the nation. Her contribution to the regents is unique because of her diverse experience as a nationally renowned leader on labor, civil rights, immigrant rights and women's issues. Ms. Huerta co-founded the United Farm Workers of America in 1962 with Cesar Chavez. Robert F. Kennedy acknowledged her help in winning the 1968 California Presidential Primary moments before he was assassinated in Los Angeles in 1968.

Academics and community members across have honored Ms. Huerta by naming public schools for her in California, Texas and Colorado.

Clearly Ms. Huerta is an outstanding American and an important international historic figure. Your re-appointment of Dolores Huerta to the UC Board of Regents would be commendable and consistent with the prestigious history of the regents.
