Maxxam Fails to Purchase New DA

by Remedy
Voters not fooled by Maxxam's malicious ad campaign to oust Humboldt County District Attorney.

Eureka, CA - In a victory of the voters over Maxxam Inc., District Attorney Paul Gallegos will keep his job and continue with prosecution of a fraud case filed last year against the Texas-based corporation. The special recall election brought voters to the polls in higher than usual numbers. Defeating the recall by more than 61%, Humboldt County residents sent the message that Maxxam cannot bully their way with high priced recalls of elected officials who would hold them accountable.

The recall was the most expensive election in Humboldt County history. The $300,000 thrown in by Maxxam was used to gobble airtime in an advertising blitz that residents called “misleading,” “scary,” “insulting,” and “pornographic.” But considering Maxxam siphons $100 million per year out of Humboldt, a mere $300,000 is pocket change. And with attention diverted to the whole dirty affair, forested hillsides were being stripped for cash in areas recognized as highly impaired.

The fraud lawsuit against Maxxam’s Pacific Lumber has been stalled out in court for months. A decision was expected last October by Judge Christopher Wilson, who has yet to rule on PL’s attempt to have the case thrown out as “baseless.” Meanwhile, cutting continues at break-neck pace.

Or does it not surprise you that 2000 more voters just happened to "appear" in Humboldt county to vote on this in the last couple of months?

Ringers were brought into the area by Richard Salazman in order to keep his D.A. in office.

ha ha, you're lame. not even all the registered voters in the county voted. The whole recall was a fraud to begin with, because maxxam paid $40,000 to out-of-state signature gatherers, registered them as Humboldt County voters using their hotel room addresses, and told them they were signing a petition against rape. Out-of-town + $8 per signature + lying = FRAUD.

we weren't fooled by this transparent corporate bullying. You shouldn't be either.

Sure they all didn't vote, but if you look at how many voted last time (just what three months ago) you'll see a massive increase of voters and more people voted. Humboldt county had the highest turn-out percent of just about any county (Alpine was higher!)

Ave turnout was like 35%

That and Gallego supporters were waving their banners by polling places, which is illegal as well. All I'm saying is this needs to be looked into.
