will include speakers addressing the crisis in the Oakland public schools and workshops to organize strategies for the black community’s control of their children’s education through public demonstrations and a district-wide boycott of the schools.
Invited speakers include Oakland School Board member Gregory Hodge, teachers from the School for Social Justice and Economic Development, Education Not Incarceration and other concerned parents, students, and teachers in Oakland.
The keynote speaker for the conference is Omali Yeshitela, Chairman of the African People’s Socialist Party and founder of the Uhuru Movement, a veteran in the struggle who provides insight and expertise in addressing the fundamental issues facing the black community. Also on the program will be Penny Hess, Chairwoman of the African People’s Solidarity Committee, organizing in the white community to defend the democratic rights of African people.
