Shinning Path Leader to Stand Trial in March
[March 2, 2004] A communiqué recently published by the Peru People’s Movement [MPP], a generated organism of the Shinning Path, has indicated that the Peruvian government intends to try Chairman Gonzalo in a sham court inside the Callao Naval Base on the charge of “genocide” with the intention of mandating a “carte blanche” for his assassination.
The MPP has called upon communists worldwide “to strain all forces to carry out overwhelming actions of all kinds” to unmask the bourgeois conspiracy and affect “the public presentation of Chairman Gonzalo, live and direct, before the national and international media, and that he may speak.”

Everything I've heard from south Americans is that the shining path were totally screwed up. Yes, Fujimori was a dictator, but that doesn't mean that stalinist tactics are acceptable. They went around forcibly conscripting peasants and killing and intimidating people, and the majority of the rural people really feared and disliked them.
