Sunday Voter Matinee A Big Success

by Dan Bacher
The following is a summary of the Sunday Voter Matinee held on Feb. 22 at CSUS by Duane Campbell, DSA activist and CSUS professor.
Sacramento DSA, along with a host of others, sponsored a Sunday Voter Matinee on Feb.22, 2004, with Ed Asner as the host. At California State University -Sacramento. The sponsoring organization was the Greater Sacramento Progressive Coalition.

The opening presentation was by Jim Shoch, former national Director of DSA, on the George Bush and the dangers of a consolidation of the Bush Regime.

Asner, in introduction openly identified himself as a DSA member. Dennis Kucinich had been invited, but was unable to attend. There was considerable unity around the need to defeat Bush in November.

Presentations were made on the major controversial propositions on California's March ballot. Labor was well represented in the presentations.

This was followed by a panel of Candidates for the 9th. assembly district a local hotly contested race. All but one of the candidates were there.

Prop. 56 Budget Accountability Act received almost unanimous support. Governor Schwarzenegger¹ s Budget Disaster and Props 57 & 58 were examined from several viewpoints. Student speaker John Kincaid described the severe cuts to public higher education in the Schwartzenegger proposals.

The event had about 120 in attendance and received regional press and media coverage -- but not the Sacramento Bee.
