A CALL TO ACTION
Join the Call To Action team
Call To Action is a new and innovative project developed in 2002 by the Center for Collaborative Planning (CCP) with funding from the Sacramento First 5 Commission (formerly the Sacramento County Children and Families Commission). In partnership with two well established community groups, Women’s Civic Improvement Club and Tahoe/Colonial Community Collaborative, the Center for Collaborative Planning issued a Call To Action to local voluntary associations in Oak Park and Tahoe Park communities to help prevent deaths and injuries among children 0-5 due to domestic violence, child neglect and child abuse.
In 2003, CCP and community team members interviewed 152 community members and 114 community members completed surveys developed by CCP.
Now with additional funding, CCP proposes to replicate and implement Phrase III of Call To Action in South Sacramento. Specifically, the Call To Action project will enlist local community members and voluntary associations such as churches, women’s groups, neighborhood associations, drug free zones, service clubs and parent groups, that can bring their gifts, talents, and resources together across neighborhoods in support of creating a healthy environment for young children and their families.
During the next phrase, CCP will work with several community based groups such as: Asian Resources, Child Action, Child Abuse Prevention Council of Sacramento, the Weed and Seed project, 2nd Born Poetry, Freedom Bound Center, Sacramento Valley Section of National Council of Negro Women, and Sacramento County Alliance of Neighborhoods among others.
Community members living in South Sacramento will have the opportunity to participate in a free 2-hour training on asset mapping (mapping local associations). For more information about Call To Action, please contact Faye Kennedy at (916) 498-6960.
