The SHORTWAVE REPORT 2/27/04 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Russia, China, Spain, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (February 27) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:51)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, the Voice of Russia, China Radio International, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- The Prime Minister of Libya said his country was not responsible for the Lockerby bombing, though others in the government later retracted the statement. France on Wednesday laid out a plan to solve the crisis in Haiti. Following a ban on US poultry by the EU, the US placed a ban on French meat products. The US indicted 2 of the prisoners at Guantanemo Bay. An investigation has been opened into charges of price gouging on gas supplies in Iraq by Halliburton Corporation.
From Russia- A commentary on the start of Bush's reelection campaign, which is focusing on international, rather than domestic problems. Iran and Japan are working on a contract for oil in the Gulf, which the US sees as a threat.
From China- Russia says it will continue to develop nuclear energy with Iran. China claims Taiwan in tampering with history in preparation for its upcoming referendum. The EU and S Korea have joined the 30 nations banning the import of US poultry.
From Spain- The conflict over a recall referendum in Venezuela continues. The ex-president of Argentina has had his assets seized in a corruption investigation. On Wednesday Israeli troops held up Palestinian banks to seize money they claim was used for sponsoring terrorist acts, while the hearings in the World Court concerning the building of the Wall continued. Then a Spanish Press review on the Israeli Wall.
From Cuba- First, more details of the hearings at the World Court, where Arab speakers condemned Israel's Wall. International Human Rights groups are protesting being barred from attending trials of the prisoners at Guantanemo Bay. A secret Pentagon report on upcoming climate catastrophes was obtained by the British newspaper The Observer.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better-  http://www.freakradio.org  Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) now streams this program on Friday at 9:30am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
