Class action lawsuits- SF mass arrests during war escalation period

by cp
This is a notice that there will be class action lawsuits proceeding fairly soon relating to the mass arrests of 2300 protesters around March 20-22 in San Francisco.
I don't have that much information at this time, but I wanted this to be put out in a location archived by google. I attended a small meeting with the attorney Russell Robinson who will be one of the lawyers representing these huge groups, and he said that it will be entered into federal court within several weeks.
The police often didn't take many notes at all about who may have been doing what during the context of their arrest, so the large percentage of people who were doing absolutely zero illegal activity might be mixed together with those who were doing minor activity like writing with chalk on the ground or walking across the street outside of a crosswalk, and the people engaging in civil disobedience such as chaining themselves to Bechtel also might be thrown into the same class.
The way we will be broken up into classes will be by arrest date and location - so the 250 people at Hayes and Larkin will be one group - and etc.

Anyway, you will be included in the class action if you were arrested within one of these groups unless you opt out. They will need some people to be the named litigants on the suit who will give depositions or be interviewed in court.
I need a bit more information, so I'm not going to give out the phone number in this posting, but you could remain aware of this and try to keep abreast of what's going on.

Whats happening with the 7th and Mission arrests? Are they included in this or just the ones listed?
by pooterama
i believe it's all 2100 people (or whatever the total # was) arrested during those several days (march 20-22 or so).

and it will be filed in California State Superior Court.

What about those of us arrested during the demo on March 15th?
by cp
Let's see. He explained that there will be about four major categories, of arrests, and one of them is for the pre-escalation demonstrations such as March 15th. I think the big scenes such as March 15th by that liquor store off of market (where I stood across the street), and 7th and Mission on the 20th, will probably be the most efficient for proceeding. I'm not entirely sure about situations where one individual or fewer than ten were taken in. We'd have to ask. In any case, the 7th and Mission people will automatically be included, and additionally, I think your options might be limited if the lawyers lost the case. But they seem fairly competent to me.
One situation might be if you move a lot, or if someone completely fails to hear about these upcoming lawsuits. If someone moved to Tennessee, and they decide to award damages, then they wouldn't be notified. They are assembling a list of current addresses, and I don't think they got the entire list of 2300 people divided into these different groups yet, and a lot of those arrest tickets don't have current phone numbers.

Here, I'll give out his phone number, but I'm not sure if it's a cell phone or work, so use it selectively: Russell robinson 415.861.4414
