Mariachis & tapdancers celebrate Day Five of SF Marry-In

by SUN
Presidents' Monday, Day Five of SF Marry-In, features tapdancers and mariachis. Tuesday morning, Day Six, may be last chance for same-sex couples to wed in San Francisco.
On Day Five of the historic Marry-In, Feb. 16, Presidents' Monday, tapdancers and a mariachi band greeted same-gender couples at San Francisco City Hall.

As newly-weds exited the ornate building, triumphantly waving their marriage certificates, they were cheered and applauded by a festive crowd of activists, relatives, and friends, including Matt Gonzalez, President of the Board of Supervisors, writer Tommi Avicolli Mecca, and many more well-wishers of all ages, genders, and orientations, despite chill drizzle.

A cabbie offered free rides to newly-wed couples.

By noon on Monday, roughly 1,740 same-sex couples had wed, according to City Assessor-Recorder Mabel Teng (AP). Hundreds more were still lined up, hoping to complete their quest on Monday afternoon.

More queer couples will come to City Hall by 8AM on Tuesday morning, Feb. 17, Day Six, trying to marry before fascists can get a court order to end the Marry-In.
