REAL DEMOCRACY
NOT EMPIRE!
Education, Living Wages & Healthcare-- NOT Warfare!
PROTEST & MASS NONVIOLENT DIRECT ACTION
March 19, 7am
Justin Herman Plaza (Embarcadero BART), SF

Celebrate the anniversary of our shutdown of the SF Financial District in
resistance to the US Invasion of Iraq - March 20, 2003 -- with the launch of
DASW¹s Democracy vs Empire 2004 action campaign, in conjunction with the
Global Day of Action Against War and Occupation on March 20. The actions
will dramatize the resources taken away from our education, healthcare and
community needs to fuel war and occupation in Iraq. Help make our dreams of
real democracy come true!
EMPIRE:Empire is the framework (accelerated by the Bush Administration) for
global control, combining U.S. military dominance, corporate globalization
and domestic policies that undermine civil liberties, promote fear, attacks
on immigrants and racial scapegoating while transferring wealth from the
majority of the people in the US and public services to big corporations and
the wealthy.
DEMOCRACY--BEYOND VOTING: Real democracy means direct decision-making in
which people participate and have direct control over the decisions and
resources that matter in our lives, our schools, hospitals, neighborhoods,
workplaces, communities and the state of the world we hand off to our
children. Democracy goes beyond voting to include all the directly
democratic ways we the people assert our power: involvement in social
movements, community organizations, and alternative institutions‹all are
essential no matter who is elected. Direct democracy is voting with your
feet, your hands, your voice and your imagination every day of the year.

Mark the date, spread the word and get involved! Come to a DASW meeting
and/or nonviolent direct action training! Organize a group of your friends,
co-workers, schoolmates, or neighbors to join in collective action!
