There was a panel on non violence/diversity tonight at the New College.Things went well except for the couple of people who used the question and answer forum to make a speech! This has happened at several of these kinds of gatherings and I'm sick of it. If you want to make a speech, then have your own forum. I really am glad that people are enthusiastic about all the things we believe in but you are preaching to the choir! So take the time to think out a question for the next panel and ask it!

The panel was just "four people giving their own opinions about direct action" - they had no particular expertise and were speaking in generalities.

While I sympathize with your characterization of the "questions" from the audience, what were they supposed to ask? "Could you tell me more about your opinions please?"

Instead, some audience members shared their own opinions - most of which seemed at least as interesting and informed as those from the panel, and at least one of which was actually concrete in its suggestions to the audience - a sharp contrast to the vague abstractions about what "the movement should consider" that were going on most of the night.
