COUNTERING THE MILITARY PRESENCE IN OUR SCHOOLS -- San Jose

A training for students, parents, teachers, guidance counselors, school board members and
concerned community members

9:45 a.m. to 3:30 pm
First Unitarian Church of San Jose
160 North 3rd Street
(between St. James & St. John in Downtown San Jose)
wheelchair accessible

Did you know that the military:
* has a $2.6 BILLION recruiting budget?
* spends millions of dollars for surreal TV commercials?
* receives contact information for every high school student through a little known provision of
the
No Child Left Behind Act (aka No Child Left Unrecruited)?
* gets most high schools to give the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test to
their
students, which they, in turn, use as a recruiting tool?
* gets local tax payers to foot the bill for JROTC programs on many high school campuses (local
school districts nationwide spend more than $222 million in local tax dollars on JROTC personnel
costs alone)?

And they still have to lie to get young people to sign up!!!

We have 15 scholarships for any students that wish to attend (first come first served)

We're asking for a donation on a sliding scale of $10-50 to cover the costs of the training and
provide some financial resources for our new project. (If you can't afford it that's OK and if
you can afford more, that's OK too!)

We have limited space, so be sure to reserve your place at the training right away.

Register by phone (408) 292-3858 x. 29 or email thinkfirst@sanjoseuu.org if you want to make
your donation at the door. If you can make your donation in advance, please send a note along
with your workshop donation to: First Unitarian Church, 160 North 3rd, Street, San Jose, CA
95112, attn:
Patrick O'Connell. Make the checks out to FUCSJ and put Think First! in the memo
