The UFCW strike is not over and is at a very critical stage in Southern California. Acts of solidarity have real impact on the remaining workers on strike that they are not alone and society has not turned against them, just corporate capital.
We are showing a very powerful video on the strike as well as an activist from LA and a rank-file worker will speak on what its like in the frontlines of the struggle. If this strike loses, it will have a spiral effect on workers through out a wide array of industries. Right now 44-50 million Americans dont have any health care and a 100,000 americans die every year becuase of this. If this strike loses, we will see these numbers go up at a dramatic rate. We can support the strikers by showing that they have a major support network here in the Bay Area. The event also wants to collect as much money as possible, the funds will go to a special category of the strike fund controlled by 7 rank-file workers who will donate the money to the most neediest cases. Since the strike, many workers have lost cars and homes from not being able to pay their monthly bills.
Were asking for a 5 dollar donation at the door (no one is turned due to lack of funds).
Volunteers needed for the event. If you want to get involved, please contact the organizers.
