David spent two weeks in July, along with performers/organizers Graciela and John Jordan, working with neighborhood assemblies in Argentina on creative resistance tactics and showing solidarity with the popular rebellion. They also participated in activities marking the 6 month anniversary of the uprising. David will speak about the current situation in Argentina, and the Argentinian's new methods of street politics.
David Solnit is co-founder of Art & Revolution, and a key organizer of protests/actions from Seattle/WTO to Quebec/FTAA. He is currently editing a book on new social resistance movements, due out next year on City Lights Press.
"Since December 2001, the Argentine people have been organizing in
neighborhood assemblies with the conviction that the time has come to take
our destinies in our hands. We arrived to this idea after delegating the
solution of our problems to the politicians, which took us to the miserable
situation that we are now all experiencing. What were until yesterday
incontestable truths, are now vanishing in front of our own eyes."
--Patricio Mc Cabe of the Assemblies of Nuñez-Saavedra and Saavedra
