Date:
Thursday, July 18, 2002
Time:
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Event Type:
Other
Organizer/Author:
Wendy Snyder
Location Details:
California Highway Patrol SF Office, 455 Eighth St (near Bryant)

The All People's Coalition to Stop US Terror and Occupation held a peaceful anti-war protest on the Golden Gate Bridge and was attacked by the California Highway Patrol. More than thirty people were arrested, some people were brutalized and others were peppersprayed, for allegedly blocking the sidewalk after the CHP prevented the marchers from completing our permitted march. The struggle continues to expose the CHP and the Bridge Authority's attack on all of our rights to oppose the brutal US war on the world's peoples that comes under the guise of a war on terrorism. Since the state in the form of the CHP knew that they made an error in attacking the protest, they have dropped the charges against nearly all the protesters. It's no accident that charges remain against 11 year old Palestinian Sophia Ibrahim, who was brutalized and terrorized and was arrested for allegedly taking a swing at a police officer although the family hasn't even seen a police report!! Join us to demand justice for Sophia Ibrahim and to defend civil liberties and our right to oppose the US war!!
