Twenty Ugandan orphans will arrive in the Bay Area to give two public performances
at Stanford's Dinkelspiel Auditorium sponsored by Stanford University's Committee on
Black Performing Arts (CBPA) and the Uganda Children's Charity Foundation (UCCF).
The Children of Uganda's Tour of Light 2002 will visit some 17 cities as they travel across
the United States to raise awareness of AIDS in Africa and its devastating impact on children.
The performance, which features a joyous song and dance performance by the Children, will
take place at 8:00 p.m. on March 23rd and 2:00 p.m. on March 24th with a special appearance
by LaDoris H. Cordell, Vice Provost for Campus Relations at Stanford.
Selected as Best Performers at the International Children's Festival at Wolf Trap in Washington, DC,
and hailed as first-rate and inspiring by the New York Times, welcome the Children of Uganda as they
take the stage and dance for joy--and something greater. The Tour of Light grew out of a program to teach
orphaned children their native songs, dances, and stories, a heritage in danger of disappearing as the
fabric of village and family unravels in times of AIDS, illiteracy and civil war.
For tickets call 650-725-2787. Ticket prices: $30 adult, $20 youths 17 and under.
Sponsors: Committee on Black Performing Arts, Stanford University &
Uganda Children's Charity Foundation.
